According to the Miss America Organization,

competing for the opportunity to serve one's community is

"one of the most rewarding and beneficial experiences available

to young women in the United States."

The skills one learns through participating in the Miss America Organization are invaluable.  

Contestants gain valuable experiences that prepare them for success in their endeavors, such as:

• Interview and public speaking skills

• Increase of self-confidence and poise

• Goal-setting and self-motivation

• Development of one's talents

• Development of a healthy lifestyle

• Scholastic achievement

As a contestant, if you:

​

• Are between the ages of 17 and 24

• Are a United States citizen

• Live within a 100 mile radius of Middle River, Minnesota

• Meet the character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization

• Are in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements

• Are able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by the Miss North Star pageant

• Want to make life-long friends

• Want to earn scholarship dollars for college

• Are driven to serve your community with purpose
